Does anyone remember Robot Wars?

mothsandtornadoes:

I remember sitting watching it with my dad waaaaay back when.  Jeremy Clarkson used to present it & then Craig Charles did.

I even remember what the ‘House Robots’ were called and everything. lololol.

I had little toys of them too.  Dead Metal was mah fave ‘cause it had a saw on it and could rip the shit out of the contestant ones, and was just generally awesome.

FUCK YEAH.

I’m Getting Bored of Cheap Celebrities, period…

Hello again. Wow I can’t believe that it has been over a month since my last blog but I’m back (I think) and have got some new topics to rant about.

I’ve just had some English Literature exams and one of the questions was “explain what you like/dislike about celebrities?” So, here is me explaining my answer to that question:  Celebrities.

Today the word is thrown about too easily in my mind. It’s been diluted into such a common tag that the *exclusivity* that used to be put with it has gone. Sad really. In the early and mid 20th century the ‘celebrity club’ was very exclusive, where everyone knew who they were.

But today, it’s not entirely the case. I think one issue with the modern ‘celebrity culture’ is the way people will so easily do anything to get their name in the press or a passport sized picture of them on page 22 of The Sun or Heat Magazine. It really grates on me that we allow this to happen. However there are some celebrities that have earned this not so prestigious status by working hard and achieving something where people know them because we have respect for them. Some music artists, for example, like: Annie Lennox and Sir Elton John but also people like Beyonce and Kanye West. These people I respect. They have shown us what talented music they can produce and sing and in 20 years time I’m sure we will look back and remember these musicians for the quality and the originality of their music. Kanye West made his name through being a contraversal however original musician and many of his songs I think are true class.

The reason I wrote this blog is to highlight how I feel there are no real role models and people to look up to any more. But instead, sadly, there are cheap tarts and ‘One Hit Wonders’ polluting the media.

Just get a life C list celebrities, no one cares!

An example of a person who claims that she is a 'celebrity'.

“Kerry Katona made a shocking appearance on ITV1’s This Morning today when she seemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs - and got angry with the show’s presenters when they asked her about her drinking habits.” The Sun

Democracy And Respect, Lets Get The Balance Right…

Oh OK, I know its a slightly dull topic but one that I feel is very important, especially on the 11th November (Armistice Day).

Tribute: Poppies are thrown in to a fountain at Trafalgar Square, central London

Today is a very sad day for many people, as they remember the loss of soldiers and civilians that died during the WWI and soldiers that are now fighting in the middle east. The UK is a democracy, which enables every person to speak what they feel, whether contraversal or not, they are entitled to their opinion. However, I feel that a touch of respect should always be considered, especially on topics that are sensitive to majority of people.

Today, most of the UK showed some respect to the two minute silence and supported the cause of poppies however there was a small, and I stress small, group of people who didn’t show support by a violent and radical protest.

I hate labelling the group “Muslims” but in this group they all were, and I dislike how all Muslims will be labelled in a negative way due to this.

About 35 Islamic protesters, dressed in dark clothes and with many masking their faces, carried banners and chanted slogans such as “British soldiers: terrorists”. The Telegraph

Shameful: Muslim protesters break the Armistice Day silence in central London today

Here is a group of people that have used their right to freedom of expression, but in a very disrespectful way. And I feel that is wrong. Yes, I promote the and support that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this was insensitive and I personally feel disgusted how such a small group of people can cause everyone else in their ethnic group to be labelled like this.

Shame on You Selfish, Inconsiderate People!

The X Factor: simple, isn’t it?

Hello again. I think it’s been about 3 weeks since I properly posted anything on my blog so I thought I’d write a new entry. One of my last posts was whether I felt the X Factor still had the X Factor and I can say that now the programme has got up to full speed I can start to judge it more.

Naturally we already have certain contestants standing out from the rest: The mini Cheryl Cole: Cher. At the start it was just a mini me of Cheryl, but now I feel that Cher has started to take her own decisions on where she wants her performances to go. Of course many features of Cher’s performances scream Cheryl Cole at us, but I quite like her. Love her of hate her, I think she’s got herself a contract with a record label: no problem.

Another few are Wagner, the ex Brazilian model, who has caught the tabloids attention due to the shear factor that in half of his songs he slips into another accent of another language and his wackeyness is just spoon feeding the press for mock stories. Aiden, the dark personality, is starting to grow on me in a bad way. His dark manor as he sings on a doomly lit stage, closing his eyes and draws the audience in like a scary circus master. His way of singing songs is quite irritating as well now, I suppose he is being original, but I couldn’t imagine sitting through a 2 hour concert of him. I think I would start self harming. Oh, and the new JLS: One Direction. At first they were the odd bits left over but now that we’ve been into the live shows now for a couple of weeks we can really see how Simon Cowell has put all his attention into this new (money maker) boy band. And as their name suggests, I think this band one direction is to go up and up and they capture more teenage girls hearts and eventually will end up on the cover of condom packets like their sister band JLS.

Now the judges. Louis Walsh is starting to annoy me quite a bit now. I don’t really like how he seems to be shouting his opinion over everyone when the acts finish and how his views always seem to be old fashioned. In my opinion, get him off and his horrid looking, quite frankly overrated, Mary off too. I’m also annoyed at how Cheryl seems to once again got the best group, coincidence?

The results show on Sunday to be an opputunity for bands and artists to plug their new singles and albums. I have no problem with that, but the collaboration with the X Factor contestants, especially with Bon Jovi, really do ruin the originality and sheer quality of the performances.

Oh and ITV, make the shows a bit shorter please. Over 2 hours due to a advert break every 7 minutes does get a bit annoying, thanks…
